Geotextiles
Geotextiles are used in the construction projects. Geotextiles allow water to flow relatively freely. So by using high strength Geotextiles, one can reinforce earth structures while allowing water to drain.
Main basic functions for Geotextiles:
- Soil Separation
Geotextiles are used to separate soils with different characteristics in roads, parking lots, and other construction applications.
Geotextiles prevent gravels and road ballast from sinking into soft soils in the subbase. This prolongs the life of the road and allows less gravel to be used. With this application, Geotextiles can help to save money in road construction by using less gravel.
- Soil Filtration
Geotextiles act as a filter to allow the water pass through it and prevent the loss of the soil particles.
Soil Filtration is a common application of Nonwoven Geotextiles. The fabric asts as a filter keeping the fine soils from passing. Such as, to wrap around perforated pipes to prevent the pipes from clogged with fine soils. It can extend the service life of the drainage pipes and reduce costs for cleaning and maintenance.
- Soil Drainage
Geotextiles drain liquid from the soil along the plane of the fabric. The main factor to drainage is to be able to provide space for the liquid to move.
- Soil Reinforcement
Geotextiles provide cost effective methods for designing reinforced soil walls, steepened slopes, and embankments.
Geotextiles are designed to provide long-lasting reinforcement, and to increase soil stability. When placed in the direction of soil deformation, reinforcement Geotextiles carry tensile stress. The high stiffness of the reinforcement Geotextiles prevents excessive deformation in the soil. Bonds developed between the soil and reinforcement Geotextiles efficiently trans-ferring stress into the surrounding soil through interlocking, friction, and end bearing resistance.
- Geomembrane Protection
Geotextiles are used to pretect sensitive Geomembranes from puncture when coarse fills are used. Geotextiles prevent sharp, angular rock from contacting the Geomembranes.
Geotextiles can also provide a clean working surface for Geomembranes installation. Putting Geotextiles under Geomembranes isolates the Goemem-branes from the soil and allows welding to take place in a relatively clean environment.
